3/31/08 - Recommendation from Charter Member Martin, he mmmmmmmmm'd some wonderful michelin star rated restaurants in Germany - here is his take:
Nowhere else in Germany will you find a higher density of awarded Michelin-Stars than in the black forest holiday region of Baiersbronn.
No fewer than six of these coveted Michelin-Stars shine above this resort. It's no wonder that Baiersbronn is more than just an insider tip concerning its superb cuisine. The fine art of cooking is celebrated by the best of the best cooks. The culinary experience across the sub-municipalities of Baiersbronn... Start your culinary tour in the Restaurant Schloßberg in Schwarzenberg. Chiefcook Jörg Sackmann has been awarded withone of these coveted Michelin-Stars. Let yourself then be attracted by chiefcook Claus-Peter Lumpp from the legendary Hotel Bareiss in Mitteltal, who has been prized withtwo Michelin-stars. And to top it off, no one less than thebest cook in Germany awaits you in the Schwarzwaldstube of the Hotel Traube Tonbach in Tonbach. Harald Wohlfahrt will make sure, that you keep this evening as one of the nicest experiences of your life in memory.
Certainly this high standard of cooking has its price, but even so, they are fair. A german motto says: good quality has to be good, but not always expensive.
3/20/08 - Recommendation from Charter Member Ewa, she mmmmmmmm’d Killorglin, Ireland - Here is what she had to say:
Killorglin - on Ireland’s beautiful south-west cost, 100 km west of Cork, 220 km south of Galway. A small town that most Ireland visitors miss, but where I end up every time I travel to Ireland. And this is why: Nick’s Seafood Restaurant & Piano Bar http://www.ireland-guide.com/establishment/nicks_seafood_restaurant_and_piano_bar.3690.html One of my absolute favourite restaurants. It is cosy, friendly, has good food and is overall a place worth visiting.
The restaurant is famous among Irish people, all the way to Dublin – I found it after suggestion from Mrs Foley at Grove Lodge.
Start with a drink, the cosy piano bar, have a look at the menu. Sit down with a nice, french style meal (with Irish influences).
They also serve the best Irish Coffee I’ve ever tasted! You easily stay there also after dinner if a sing-along starts with the piano player. Reservation recommended.
Grove Lodge Riverside Guesthouse www.grovelodge.com The prettiest and most friendly guest house you can find, located just outside the town centre (5 minute walk). Proprietor, Mrs Foley, takes very good care of her guests. It was a B&B the first time I stayed there, but is now more of a small hotel. Beautiful setting along river Laune.
PS. The name of the river in Killorglin is Laune, hence the name of the local soccer team; Laune Rangers.
